I was able to test the bags this morning after my trip to AZ for four days. My setting was a controlled environment, meaning at home, no heavy moving of the bag or off-road trails or extended driving. That said, these bags work great. I like them a lot.
- I had about 2-2.5 gallons waste - maybe half water and half black, no urine this time since I was out in the desert and did not need the toilet.
- When filled in the bag it was about 8-10 pounds I'm guessing, about 6 inches of the bag filled.
Set up was easy. I did not use a bucket, just placed the bag on a flat floor. I did not realize how big the bag was so you really need to pour down into it so I can see where higher leverage would help.
PROS:
- For the most part so easy to do. I can see these working pretty effortlessly in the field.
- Eliminates the labor and stink and mess of hauling the waste tank to a receptacle and praying to god you don't gag pouring it out. That was my favorite thing. Just pour and seal.
- The bag is heavy duty and appears ready to handle off roading or extended travel without breaking. Even with a loaded cassette 5 gallons it seems like the bag would not even fill halfway which is good so the solid bundle would still be easy to control and move. That said, I still need to test this on washboard and off camber trails.
- Easy to take the bag, seal it and drop it in the trash.
CONS:
1. The only con is likely unavoidable is the neck filler on the outside of the waste tank spout that attaches to the bag for some reason gets waste on it. It gets dirty and needs to be cleaned off once emptied. I don't know if I was shaking it too rigorously. I will try to be a little more deliberate next time and see if I can handle the waste pouring without getting the outside of the spout dirty. Or maybe I need to put the tie closer to the end of the spout. Response from Camp & Boat LLC: to minimize the cassette waste on the spout after removal of the bag, we suggest you pull the neck of the bag as far as possible onto the spout and place the zip tie directly being the ridge which stops the cap when screwed on. That way when you remove the bag some of the waste will be pulled off with the bag and the only clean up you will have will be on the threads of the plastic spout. BTW, the same thing happened to us the first time as well, LOL!!
So other than the spout, I would whole heartedly recommend the bags. I can see how they extend a trip if you have a place to keep them while in transit either marine or road. I like the convenience and how quickly you can get this done. I think it took me all of 8 minutes and that was taking my time to read the directions and stare at the pictures. With two people this would be a breeze but one person can handle this pretty easily. My waste tank gets pretty smelly even with the deodorant packs but my favorite part was hardly any of the smell using the bags vs. emptying 5 gallons of waste while wearing a mask and hoping I don't gag.
